Talent Optimization: The New Frontier

 

Mike Zani has a remarkably varied background. After attended Brown University, he coached the 1996 US Olympic Sailing Team, where he was named Coach of the Year for the sport of sailing. After his career as a sailing coach, he attended Harvard Business School, and later on partnered with one of his fellow graduate school classmates to form a search fund called Phoenix Strategy Investments, which searches for companies to acquire where there is the potential to apply better management practices to dramatically improve the results those companies are delivering. The first company Phoenix Strategy Investments acquired was LEDCO, a computer docking station manufacturer. As CEO, Mike was able to increase LEDCO’s revenue by 350% in 4 years. After selling LEDCO, Mike acquired and ran ShapeUp, a SaaS wellness platform, where he grew revenues by 600% in 3 years.

 

At both of these companies, Mike and his team used Predictive Index, a workforce assessment methodology, to ensure they were doing the best job possible job of hiring and managing people in their companies. The Predictive Index had been family run since its founding in 1955. In 2014, Mike was able to lead an investment to purchase the Predictive Index, and he has been CEO of the company since then.

 

Today, the Predictive Index software is translated into 70 languages, has been used in 142 countries, and has conducted 20 million behavioral assessments.
